Mutiu Olawuyi
Mutiu Olawuyi is a journalist, communication strategist, educator, and peace advocate whose work spans West Africa and North America. He is the originator of the Constructive Restorative Journalism (CRJ) framework, a practice-based approach to journalism that goes beyond informing the public to help communities understand, heal, and transform themselves. As Chief Editor of Senegambia Times and CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Parrot Media Corporation, he brings that framework to life daily across newsrooms, classrooms, and community spaces in Senegal, Nigeria, The Gambia, and New York.

Career History
Mutiu’s professional career spans more than a decade at the intersection of journalism, education, and public advocacy. He currently serves as Director of the Center for Research, Media, and Curriculum Development at STEMDUP Institute in New York, where he leads curriculum and communications initiatives connecting African youth to STEAM education. As founder and President of the International Association of Constructive Journalists (IACJ), established more than five years ago — he has built one of West Africa’s most active networks of journalists committed to constructive, solutions-oriented reporting. The organization is incorporated in New York (USA) and Abuja (Nigeria), with operational chapters in The Gambia and Senegal. In addition, he serves as Director of Media and Publicity for National Center Health Equity in New York.
His editorial leadership also includes the New York Parrot, Parkchester Times and Bronx Post, publications through which he has covered diaspora communities, civic life, and social transformation across the New York metropolitan area. As a communication strategist, he has worked with nonprofits, educational institutions, and civic organizations across multiple countries, developing messaging, media training, and public advocacy campaigns grounded in community trust.
Education
Mutiu holds a strong foundation in journalism, communication, and education built through years of professional practice and ongoing formal study. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in New Media Journalism at Full Sail University, where his graduate work focuses on digital storytelling, audience strategy, and the evolving business models of independent journalism. More information
Mutiu was born in Nigeria and shaped by years of work across Nigeria, The Gambia, Senegal, Somaliland, and New York (remotely). He carries a genuinely transnational perspective — one that shows up in his journalism, his teaching, and his advocacy.
He is a lover of Pan-African history, oral storytelling traditions, and the kind of long conversations that do not end cleanly. He is also the author of AYOMIDE — My Joy Has Come, a memoir rewritten as literary fiction that traces a life shaped by faith, migration, and the search for purpose. When he is not writing, reporting, or teaching, he is reading, thinking, or walking — usually all three at once.
